The waitress was welcoming and I ordered a fresh juice (mixed fruit called a Fruit Tingle) immediately whilst Steve disappeared on a work related phone call.
Anyway not long later the juice arrived and Steve came back and the order was taken.
My tea arrived in a cute little pot with cosy and it was definitely a fine cup of tea. Points for the liquid beverages and the prompt service.
The buttie was good - not better than we could make at home though and the chips weren't the nicest I've had. Generous portion size though and I'd have been happy with the buttie alone.
The sweetcorn fritters were a bit flat and pancake like. We prefer them with more corn and I think it needed a runny poached or fried egg to add some yolky richness as without it was a bit flat and anaemic. The other elements were good enough.
I liked the friendly service. I liked the way they list their suppliers on a blackboard painted wall. I like the sound of the lunch dishes. Our dishes were ok but nothing really memorable and Steve definitely prefers brunch at Panette or Gas so I guess we may not be back to try more... Unfortunately in such a competitive market such as South Melbourne where there are a plethora of little breakfasty / brunchy places and other eateries to be ok is not good enough to guarantee repeat business.
