La Citta

We were shopping in the CBD and fancied lunch and a bottle of wine. Given we were on De Graves Street we chose La Citta. Apparently Steve has always wanted to try this place...

Our welcome was friendly and decided to sit inside as there was more room and settled in. Our wine arrived soon and ordering was easy. The food came out pretty quickly too.

We started with whitebait with a parsley and caper mayo and croquetas with red pepper and chicken.

The whitebait was crispy and pleasant enough with a squeeze of fresh lemon. The croquetas were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Couldn't really taste the chicken but there was certainly a sweetness from the red pepper maybe to the filling.
Pretty moreish.

I went with the peri peri roast chicken which came with a radicchio and citrus salad and Steve went with spaghetti and beef ragu.

The chicken was moist and tasty and the bitter salad leaves were a good contrast along with sweet tang of orange. I felt the chicken was rather small for the price though. Steve's spaghetti was al dente and the juices and meat again flavoursome so it was a good plate of food.

We also shared some salty shoestring fries which were entirely unnecessary but indulgently pleasant!

Too full for dessert although they sounded good - maybe a repeat visit will be necessary to try them out.
