Monday night girls' dinner and the destination was Trunk. Charlotte had been for brunch but we were all new to it for dinner. The dining room was reasonably empty and we were seated quickly. We found the wait staff friendly and the environment pleasant to sit around. Music volume was low enough for us to chat and temperatures were at a comfortable level.

The menu at Trunk is vast with pastas, risottos, salads, pizzas and main dishes a plenty.

I went with the spiced lamb shoulder, roasted rump, smoked eggplant and Meredith yoghu. It didn't come with a starch or salad except for some roasted capsicum and a small smear of eggplant. It would have been better value if there was more by way of accompaniment,

In terms of taste the dish was delicious. Loved the soft pile of braised shoulder with the piquant of the stewed capsicum and the smoky eggplant. I also really enjoyed the dense meaty lamb rump cooked pink with a tasty fat rind and it went beautifully with the yoghurt. There wasn't a huge amount of spicing to the dish though which wasn't an issue flavour wise as the lamb was well cooked and tasted good in its own right but I guess it didn't quite match expectations derived from the description on the menu.

The girls went for pizza and they were pretty large pizzas:

Margherita - buffalo mozzarella, tomato passata and fresh basil
Monte Mare - artichoke puree, blue swimmer crab, prawns, calamari, parsley, garlic, chilli and lemon
Calabrese - tomato passata, scamorza, casalingo salami, chilli and peperonata

General concensus was that they were pretty good and resulted in us booking a table to bring the boys in a couple of weeks. I liked the laid back atmosphere and the fact that the menu caters to every taste and every budget which is great when dining with friends and it's more about the company and witty conversation and good food helps with the overall enjoyment of our time together. Only slight blip was when we tried to book the table for the repeat visit on our way out, we had to wait around a bit and walk up and down the bar to find someone to help. But we're not holding that against them as we'll be back!
