Quick Wedge Post

Just a quick wedge post before we jet off for 5 weeks to UK. 5 weeks!!! How did we wangle that one. I'm still thanking my lucky stars!

So in the run up - some highlights? Are they even highlights? To call something a highlight raises the expectations and truly our lives aren't that exciting. Maybe it's more some things to share with you.

I discovered a Donna Hay recipe - love her magazine and the photography is always to die for. She's pretty well known in Australia but less so in UK but my introduction to her was through a temp job for a design agency for supermarket packaging in Hull. They had a subscription to provide the designers with some visual inspiration and I remember gaining a warm affection for her magazine since then. And funnily enough, after I shared my photo of my version on Facebook, there was a lot of love for it from my circles! Slow cooked pork lasagne - fairly time consuming because of the pulled pork but not hard to pull off. Sweet pulled pork, creamy bechamel and a cheesy topping. Tasty and satisfying! I even had my friend Karly seek consultation via text as she tried it out on her in laws making some tweaks to incorporate her kitchen buddy the Thermomix!

We had one Saturday that was tough on the old bodies! It started off with a late lunch at Bayte with Stef and Kim sat outside in some, what is now rare, Melbourne Winter sunshine starting with an espresso martini and ending with one with wine in between. And then followed up with dinner with the Mortons. Two feasts in one day - what a marathon!
And to top it all off, we caught up with Ling, Noah and Stef and little Bunty here for Thai the following lunchtime. Look how cute she is and she was so well behaved at the restaurant too eating her bun.

Amelia has been busy again with Eddie (her brother the chihuahua) and she thinks they are best friends. I'm pretty convinced Eddie is less enthusiastic and is traumatised by earlier experiences of when she has put him in her pram and then crashed into the wall! She's also been helping out with some gardening and getting down and dirty in the soil including getting to grips with worms. It's lovely to see such innocence when things like bugs and creepy crawlies incite fascination over fear.

And we will see everyone soon as we make that 24 hour journey over the the European Summer although I'm not convinced it's going to be as tropical as the Aussies seem to think!

We are Steve and Minda and we've been given the opportunity to move to Melbourne for two years. We arrived November 2010 and passed that two year milestone and are now Australian citizens! This is a blog of our experiences as we move to this new country, settle in and have fun!
