Balls and Icecream

It's been a relatively busy couple of weeks. And I plan to use this blog post to remember a few of the things we've been up to.

We were invited to a new restaurant in our neighbourhood Meatball & Sons for a Meatball Masterclass and taste of their food.

Modelled on an old grocer's store and with the slogan "Goodness All Round"; organic and local produce is what it's all about.

We were shown to the kitchen area and people paired off to make some balls which would be cooked and then eaten by the whole group. Steve and I were entrusted with the Pork and Bourbon Glazed. Fellow bloggers from The Food Society, Ichigo Shortcake, Sweet and Sour Fork, Peach Water, Mel: Hot or Not came together to make other balls including Thai Chilli Chicken, Beef and Bocconcini, Greek Lamb and Mexican Beef. It was a fun night and great to meet the owners and learn about the vision and what's gone into the opening of this restaurant. More about Meatball & Sons in the Restaurant Reviews.

I spent a Saturday afternoon with Kim and we enjoyed a meal at a newly opened restaurant in the CBD where we spotted Heston Blumenthal sitting at the bar. And the evening ended with wine by the river. We've had unseasonably warm weather and it's been lovely to be able to continue to enjoy the outdoors.

What's better than ice cream in warm weather? And a one minute walk from home is N2 Gelato which makes ice cream to order using nitrogen so cue lots of Kitchen Aids with smoke!

I had the Ferraro Reveal which was a like a giant frozen Ferrero Rocher and it came with a syringe of liquid chocolate to inject into the centre of the ice cream! Very clever, very tasty!

On a sunny Saturday, Steve and I headed West as were kindly invited to Zoe's 1st Birthday Party! We managed to catch up with parents Lucy and Steve as well as see Charlotte and Nick and Claire and Martyn briefly. Clever momma Lucy didn't bake a cake, although there were plenty of cupcakes, and created a colourful and appetising watermelon fruitbowl. And you can se it was popular with Zoe who enjoyed dipping in and helping herself!

Speaking of kids and food, Spring is in the air in the UK and apparently it's ice cream time there too. So much so that all Amelia seems to do is eat ice cream! Oh and put on lip balm which is something else she has learnt!

We are Steve and Minda and we've been given the opportunity to move to Melbourne for two years. We arrived November 2010 and passed that two year milestone and are now Australian citizens! This is a blog of our experiences as we move to this new country, settle in and have fun!
