Unfortunately the return journeys have been less comfortable and certainly less fragrant as the toil and sweat of a hard days work circulates around a crammed tram and being short I seem to find myself snuggled under someone's armpit. Lovely! I didn't expect this given I leave work usually after 6pm but there was a fire on Tuesday night at Richmond station which caused all sorts of havoc for all forms of public transport that night and the following day.
Aside from the commute, I'm still trying to get to grips with the main streets and what is where. Not having the greatest sense of direction doesn't help and Steve being around means I get lazy and stop trying.
There's a supermarket close by but we're yet to figure out a replacement market for South Melbourne market but in terms of other necessities I think we pretty much know enough.
Steve's met one of our neighbours and we've sorted out a cleaner who actually lives in the complex too. We met him today and he's probably the first resident who is older than us. Everyone else we've seen appears to be younger!
We had our first guests (briefly) on Saturday. Shern, Jon and Andy came for a drink before we embarked on a pub crawl of the local area. So kind of them to help us familiarise ourselves with the neighbourhood watering holes. Much beer was consumed and the evening ended with burgers and fried chicken at Belle's Diner squeezed into a little booth.
Only downside is I can't reach the top ones. And it's already full so no more shopping for a while! Or it has to be a case of one pair in, one pair out; exclusive nightclub style!
We've been working on the soft furnishings now that we've moved in. Foxtel man has been and all the little snagging things have been fixed so I guess we're all sorted now.
Fully functional laundry cupboard and we've been doing a lot of laundry. The spare room is pretty much the drying room so no photos of that until we're all caught up!
Steve's had a busy social diary this week and that coupled with the fact that we haven't had time to do a proper grocery shop means we haven't actually cooked at home yet. Also we needed to figure out how to use the oven as the manual seems to make pretty complicated with too many functions!
I had great plans for this afternoon. I wanted to be on the sofa watching episode after episode of programmes like "What Not to Wear", "Four Weddings" and other such delights whilst Steve went to the Richmond game. I waved goodbye to him and snuggled on down. One minute later he returned and decided to watch the game from home as it was raining too hard...so much for my date with the TV. I guess the upside was he offered to cook dinner.
We have also sorted out a cleaner who happens to live int his apartment block too. He came by today to meet us and he's the first resident we've met who is older than us! Everyone else we've seen appear to be quite young including our neighbour who played thrash metal very loudly last weekend!
And now for some cute Amelia pictures! She seems more comfortable Skyping us and we get a wave and a hello at the start of the conversation and a bye bye when she's bored. She did tell us about her poorly eye today and that she's been on the Calpol- she's had an eye infection and when Mummy mentioned eye drops, she definitely didn't want that to happen!
I love the photo of her in the sunglasses pointing at the camera - just too cool!
