But before I go into birthday celebrations let's do a quick recap of the week.
Early part of the week was fairly uneventful. Reporting week for Steve so long hours for him which is far from unusual in January.
On Wednesday I caught up with an old uni friend who was in town for a wedding. I'd not seen Fei Fei for over ten years! And now she's in town with a husband and a cute bubba. We enjoyed a catch up (she looks exactly the same and is still as slim as she was as a youthful 20 year old, so unfair) over dinner and the years melted away.
I also had a good Thursday and a delightful dinner date with the lovely Tanya. We enjoy finishing work and sloping off to a restaurant for a glass of wine and a chinwag. The company is always charming and I always feel relaxed after a couple of hours of Tanya conversation.
Wimbledon - Vanilla cream, mascarpone, strawberry puree & almond sponge
Absolutely scrumptious! And I think everyone enjoyed it.
Steve was at the tennis (Australian Open has come around for 2012) and I had an early night as we had plans to go hot air ballooning which required a 3:30am start. Sadly at 3:30am we found out the flight wouldn't go ahead due to low cloud so we would have to reschedule. Back to sleep...
Back to sleep indeed and we woke up mid morning and Steve made a reservation at Bistro Vue for a birthday lunch.
After a fantastic French feed, we met up with Kat and Milly who were in town from Sydney for the tennis at the Rooftop Bar and enjoyed a few pre tennis drinks, some sunshine and chit chat.
Then it was Lleyton Hewitt v. Milos Raonic and although it wasn't the 5 setter Kat was hoping for it was still a pretty exciting game.
Raonic is really powerful and the speed of his serves and returns are pretty scary but much to the delight of pretty much all the crowd, Lleyton held up and was through to the final 16.
I love celebrating my birthday in sunshine unlike back home when it's in the dreary depths of Winter. Although it is still at a time that Steve is exceptionally busy, I'm more accepting when there's sunshine!
Today (Sunday) we enjoyed tapas in Fitzroy before returning home to rest. I enjoyed some time at the pool terrace and Steve watched more tennis. It's been a pleasant and relaxed evening with some episodes of JAG (!) and Steve cooked some yummy pasta.
The evening has finished off with a phone call from my lovely friend Adele calling from UK for a catch up. She is engaged and will be getting married in March and we are so thrilled for her and Jon. We really wish we could be there to celebrate with them but I'd much rather they get married than wait for us to return before doing so! We'll just have to have more celebratopms
