Anyway I was feeling well enough to face work by Thursday. I'm finding work quite stressful and exhausting. Dealing with people can take it's toll and this coupled with not feeling well means I'm not coping with the various situations that can arise. Such is life in the recruitment world though and the good times make it worth it. Still waiting for some good times...
Friday night came round and Steve booked us a restaurant for a dinner date. What with my illness, his busy season it seemed like it'd been a while since a Barley date so we enjoyed each other's company and discussed what to do for the remainder of the weekend. Needless to sat Steve drank most of the bottle of wine we ordered. I'm pretty much back to normal now health wise but my taste for alcohol has most definitely waned! Need to get drink fit!
Noah had very kindly invited us to Ling's surprise birthday party on Saturday. I knew there'd be kids there and I was still not 100% recovered so didn't want to share my germs and cause other's to fall ill so we declined the invite and decided to spend the night at home (in quarantine!)
Happy birthday to Ling. This is a pic I stole from FB of her at her surprise party. I look forward to celebrating her birthday belatedly next time we meet.
So Saturday night in for the Barleys. What did we do? Cooked up a storm! Barley made his way through beer and a really good bottle of pinot noir - I managed a glass.
We made French onion soup with Gruyere melted on baguette. Followed that up with duck breast with a porcini and mixed mushroom risotto. Very rich, very earth and all very delicious.
Steve also attempted to re create the baklava we learnt to make last week. Not quite of the quality produced previously but a valiant effort!
