Walking in Melbourne

When I walk into the City from our temporary apartments there are different routes to take. The one I prefer now means turning right as I leave the apartment block which his the triangular shaped building in the first picture. I then walk past the Arts Centre which is the picture with the pointy metal pylon thing and then cross one of the bridges fron which I can see down the river and spot  the tallest building in Melbourne which is soon to be our home. You can't see our apartment as we're too low down and face the other way but you can just see the PwC offices next to it just peeking out behind the white building.

All down the banks of the river are bars and restaurants for us to acquaint ourselves with. We've had a weekend of sun which has been lovely. Friday post work drinks were really pleasant (not post work for me as I don't have a job but I gatecrased Steve's works plans) in a bar by the river. We stayed out and at the invite of one of Steve's new colleague headed towards the beach to a place called St Kilda and met up with his wife and had dinner together. We had our first glimpse of the beach on a beautiful evening and saw the sunset. A lovely way to end the week.
The pictures are the things I've seen and liked during my little walks around the City called the CBD (Central Business District). I love the random sculptures you find like the businessmen at the busy pedestrian crossing and the random giant pink purse which is outside a posh shopping centre; kind of fitting don't you think? Have a flick through the pictures and look at the sights in Melbourne with me.

I also love St Paul's which is the church I see as I enter the CBD area and Flinders Street Station with its clocks and art deco ish look. It's the one that is mustardy in colour. I'm no architecture expert but there are a lot of art deco ish builidings and you see them next to something completely new and modern. I also adore finding little arcades and laneways which just appear our of nowhere.

Walking by the river in the sunshine is always pleasant although Steve did comment that the water looks muckier than the Humber! You don't see plam trees by the banks of the Humber though!

We are Steve and Minda and we've been given the opportunity to move to Melbourne for two years. We arrived November 2010 and passed that two year milestone and are now Australian citizens! This is a blog of our experiences as we move to this new country, settle in and have fun!
