- GRUYERE AND JALAPENO CROQUETTES With confit garlic and lime aioli
- CRISPY FRIED WHITEBAIT With tartare and lemon
- MIDNIGHT BURGER Wagyu beef, lettuce, caramelised onion, mayo, cheese, bacon and a fried egg with optional beetroot and pineapple
- SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN With slaw and BBQ sauce
The fried chicken was bite sized and boneless whereas I was expecting chicken joints on the bone a la KFC. I still enjoyed this version especially when accompanied by the hot sauce on the table. I wasn't such a fan of the slaw though and found it dry and too much like rabbit food. I was expecting a creamy coleslaw but the was grated carrot and beetroot neither of which was particular flavoursome.
I did enjoy the Malteser milkshake though which was thick, creamy, malty and chocolatey and not overly sugary. Go for the milkshake!
We ordered two large fries to share but we thought that the one bowl that arrived couldn't have contained two large serves but there was enough for us so we didn't raise the issue. The place was too busy really and we just paid the bill as we were full and just wanted to be out of there.
Foodwise, Belle's Diner hit the spot. But it wasn't a comfortable or particularly relaxed meal as we were too crammed and the place was full. The other annoying thing was our booth was right next to the door and people were constantly coming in and out and out and in and they didn't shut the door properly so I kept having to push it into place and there was always a draught.
Would I return? Yes if I was in the area and needed that burger fix but I wouldn't go out my way to head there.
