I love the hole in wall in a laneway - just so typical Melbourne and I was hopeful this would be hit hot hittety hot dog...
The hole in wall looked promising with big meaty sausages on the grill when I arrived.
The Japanese Dog just sounds just too strange to me so I played it safe and went Mexican Chilli Dog. And I really wanted to try the mash and gravy so I did. My lunch came to just over $12 which is a touch over budget for a takeaway lunch for me as I usually aim for $10.

And now for the main delight. Loved the look of the chilli and the melted cheese. The sausage was dense and meaty and this was definitely a knife and fork affair. I loved the spiciness of this too. The only downfall was the bread just wasn't soft enough and the ends felt a little dry and stale. Dognation needs to up the quality of the bread. It was also a touch cold but that's more my fault for taking the long way back to the office and running an additional errand.
Dognation provided me with a good lunch. It was satisfying but it wasn't so brilliant that I wanted to return the next day and buy another one. The mash however I would go back and eat every day! I think the concept of Dognation is very appealing and I would certainly indulge now and then especially on a hangover day and when feeling naughty but it certainly isn't an every day lunch.
