New kid on the block by way of Fitzroy cafes tucked away off the main strips but super easy to get to. Serving breakfast, brunch and burgers for lunch and dinner, it's an airy and bright dining room that is comfortable to sit in with plenty of space around the tables.
It was reasonably busy when we arrived for Sunday breakfast but we were able to get a table easily and our coffee order was seen to promptly.
And it didn't take much longer to place our order. Although it did take a while for the actual drinks to arrive but not untypical of a busy service.
Steve went with the The Scotch: Scotch egg with pork and leek stuffing, free range crispy bacon, aged cheddar, homemade picalilli relish, watercress salad and grilled cheesy toast. It's a hefty dish for breakfast but good for brunch especially post pilates! It's also very cheesy with strong cheddar on the toast and on the plate. The egg was cooked perfectly and the bite I had was certainly very tasty.
There's a lot of competition on the block but New School holds its own. Price point wise, it's at the higher end but the portion sizes are pretty generous so it's not bad value for money. It doesn't have the baked goods of Rustica or Babka but its plates of food are very well executed and I'm looking forward to trying out the burgers! Oh and the delicious sounding raspberry ripple chia pudding...
